[#10] Tale Of Chaos: It’s Deep. It's FAKE. It's AI. It's Hardware. It's Software. It's Everything. The Vortex of Artificial Intelligence is here to stay. But what is it — Rise? Threat? Abomination?
“It's a new day, it's a new life for me
And I'm feeling good Dragonfly out in the sun you know what
I mean Butterflies all havin' fun you know what I mean
Sleep in peace when the day is done that's what I mean
And this old world is a new world for me, yeah
And I'm feeling good”"Feeling Good" by Nina Simone.
Morning, iKyu’s inKredible subsKriber, it’s a new year. A new year? or so we thought.
2024. Leap Year. Major elections in 70+ countries. Wars. Clashes. Derogatory Remarks. #BoycottMaldives. Lakshadweep Grand Tourism Planning. Narendra Modi. Trump. Funding Winter. Layoffs. Global Economy. India’s Manufacturing Hub. Surat’s Diamond Bourse. GIFT City. Superconductors (…not so super). Nyay Sanhita. Ram Mandir🚩. 75th Republic Day.
THE (K)EY NOTES:
The (K)urrent: THE AI CENTRAL
The (K)réme: THE rAbbIt HOLE
The (K)inK: THE NEW WORLD ORDER
Many more such envelopes of 2023 will concealed this year.
Just 26 nights into 2024, we have started to brew ecstatic drama on a global stage.
AI.
Talk of the Internet Town. Artificial Intelligence is here to stay, already engrained as an extension of Human interface. When you think of a dystopian world with AI automating all of your tasks via Humanoid Robots, it would be such a delight to see that this evolution cycle is man-made.
Humans didn’t conform. They elevated. With elevation came power. To sustain power came, power-concentration. That concentration led to centralisation. And that’s where…
AI is twisted. AI is dunked. AI is prompted.
Let’s break down the dark ‘Intelligence’ behind this remarkable technological leap of sentient humans…
THE (K)URRENT
THE AI CENTRAL
The centralization of AI has been a topic of concern from the time AI became incepted as a mainstream ‘new cool’. With some arguing that it could have destructive consequences. The default outcome of AI development is to increase control and intelligence available to centralized, well-resourced organizations, which can lead to long-lasting inequalities in AI usage. If we thought so, the centralization of AI can also lead to the concentration of power, limited recourse, and the potential for mistakes to go unaddressed, raising ethical and societal challenges. Which we did experience recently.
WHAT HAPPENED EXACTLY?
On January 4th, 2024: A journalist and co-founder of 404 Media — Joseph Cox, posted on X about the unsealed Jeffrey Epstein documents.
Looking at such detailed docs, Patrick Blumenthal a serial VC, who’s an investor in startups like Discord, Anduril Tech & Flexport and a contributor posted a custom-made GPT, trained on the docs shared by Joseph.
But OpenAI, known to refrain from such situations did something ‘expected’ — with a label of “violation of our policies”, custom-made GPT: EpsteinGPT breathed for only 30 mins.
Two days later, EpsteinGPT was officially banned for public use.
This stunt was quoted by a supreme techno-optimist & face of the global VC world, — he expressed his concerns over AI centralisation is an alarming concern in today’s age.
And this is where start to ponder our thoughts on how unstable the “Power concentration of AI” could be:
“Centralization is just obvious structure organization whereas decentralization is just organized chaos — the great thing with AI is that there are infinite patterns aka pathways so doesn’t matter”
In recent times, concerns have been raised about the potential for AI to exacerbate inequality and diminish human agency, leading to increased vulnerabilities and the loss of control over individuals' lives. On the other hand, some argue that AI will not destroy the world and may save it. Now their optimism in the hood of ‘accelerationism’ is stingy. It has the probability of going either way but the inclination will always be to protect itself from the threat. Yes, I mention AI as a threat because algorithms, in the end, have a degree of disorder built into them. Anything can happen. We should be prepared.
Measures are to be taken, or we shall be taken.
THE (K)RÉME
THE rAbbIt HOLE
It has been an amazing 27 days of supreme tech nerds like me…
We got Rabbit.
We got Apple Vision Pro.
We got the GPT Store.
“RUB MY RABBIT”
Visualize this with me: You’re in your regular black tinted jeans and black t-shirt; you’re standing on one of the biggest consumer electronic stages; the whole world’s watching…
You’re about to launch one of humankind's biggest leaps in technology innovation; a form of technology never seen before; you come onto the stage — the camera pans at you and the orchestra begins!
“Every once in a while, a revolutionary product comes along that changes everything.
And here today, we're introducing three of them.
First, a widescreen iPod with touch controls. Second, a revolutionary mobile phone. Third, a breakthrough internet communications device.
An iPod, a phone, an internet communicator.
An iPod, a phone. Are you getting it? These are not three separate devices. This is one device, and we calling it…iPhone.
Today, today, Apple is going to reinvent the phone. And here it is…”
Does this ring a bell?
The iconic iPhone launch excerpts from 2007. It changed the entire landscape of how a baby is introduced to the world, the lion king moment we have known for our entirety was shattered by this new form of magic. Mankind’s biggest creation wasn’t that magical device, but the blazing eyeballs on how a single invention can become a natural extension of human beings.
Something similar happened at CES 2024.
Jesse Lyu went on stage with his minimalistic attire & nerdy charm and showcased an orange-candy-looking square-sized palm fidget display with a thumb-roller and a rotating camera…
or in other words, a computational marvel. A Handheld AI Assitant that’s posed and accepted as a Flagship App Killer in the tech community…
Rabbit r1.
A lot of things have been said about this tiny-orange-AI-rabbit on X, but one joint narrative that everyone has been spewing on this:
“This could have been just an App”
And that’s pretty much about it. You can watch the launch video and decide it for yourself. And save some watch time for Steve Jobs, hehe.
But there’s more in the store…
“MISSION. and VISION.”
MISSION:
OpenAI made us all fall in love with ChatGPT’s chat-based interface. It’s like altering human behaviour by making them use your product in a certain way. So, Chat. An iPhone moment yet again. Jobs made it clear to the world, that from the very day forward, smartphones shall be interacted with via touch interface. History simply repeats itself. Not Surprised.
But maybe there’s one more thing…
ChatGPT launched its online GPT Store. As promised by Sam Altman at DevDay (the day before the entire exit-re-entry-exit-re-entry OpenAI CEO Saga), a big leap in defining how the fundamentals of Generative AI shall be moulded for the upcoming generations. Custom-user-made GPTs will be accessible via the GPT Store to an entire internet user base to tinker with. This would act as a discovery platform for ChatGPT users; more concentrated trained GPTs would help function better.
VISION:
Apple might have lost its “Most Valuable Company in the World” spot with a slight hit; it’s because its VISION is changing. They’re going PRO. Computers are so 1997 now. It’s time to go spatial.
Apple Vision Pro — Apple’s Latest beast in the consumer-tech space is on the edge of being released. Don’t be fooled by its AR/VR design features; it’s a walking machine with a three-dimensional user interface.
Interfaces are all about the experience; Apple revolutionized our interaction with different beautifully designed products since its inception and their quest to answer “What’s next?” is here.
The (K)inK.
“Internet piK of the week”
“I’M A HOMO…” (THE NEW WORLD ORDER…)
Humane ai Pin has taken the internet by storm, but there’s a catch. AI pins have been disregarded by the internet before they hit the shelf.
Humane, a new age AI tech company led by Ex-Apple Employees bringing the endurance of beautiful hardware and the leap of AI, this combination might look lucrative on the books; but in reality, the penetration and behavioural acceptance are low.
Steve Jobs once said We, humans, are tool builders. We, Humans, can fashion these tools to amplify the human race. And a "Computer" becomes a bicycle for the Human mind. Most people can’t predict the future of technology. But some have the grit and obsession to invent it. Just a distorted form of what Alan Kay once said.
You might never know “What’s Next?” Some Tech Gurus say it would be AR/VR; the next very revolution in computer technology. But that’s still not solving the addiction of “TOO MANY SCREENs” It might be an extension to generative AIs; well that’s just a limited thinking for AI.
“The Future of Technology is going to be invisible”. The new world order with AI is going to be dangerously beautiful. Contributing to the very fundamentals that would shape the new form of human beings (
Homo Sapiens)…The Homo-Techno. (A Concept introduced by Grimes on Lex Fridman's Podcast)
I am a Homo-Techno, are you?
Technology enables. We are stuck with technology when what we want is just stuff that works. Rise above!
Loved this piece of beautifully crafted information. it seamlessly integrates bites of past and present loved it!!
